New Oversized Change Purse

My little wallet is just so dirty, and has the little elastic loop about stretched out from putting too many things in that tiny little space. So, I decided it's time to make me a change purse...but a slightly oversized one. This is my first attempt at doing a hinged purse, but I'm generally happy with the result.

The purse is silk inside and out. The only thing that bothers me about it is that you can see the thread from the stitches on the inside. Although it is thin beading thread...and matches the color of the purse; it still bugs me.

Any idea on how to cover this up...without using any glue. I want this to be an all hand-sewn endeavor. I'd like to make my mother one, but don't want the stitching to show. My thought is to so some stem stitch along that inside metal part to cover it up...just not sure yet if that will be enough or if it is even feasible. I'll try it out on mine and let you know later on...but open for ideas!
Hugs!

3/9/14 Edited to Add: So many have asked...the purse frame came from crazyquiltingsupplies.com...tell Thearica that I sent you. Ha!

  1. Beautiful. I have wanted to make one too so I'll be interested to see if you receive any suggestions. Do you have good sources for the frames? I have been trying to find one that is a little ornate and unusual.

  2. It's very nice. Love the fabric:) If it was me I would put a narrow flat gimp trim to finish it off.

  3. a very pretty purse, I think some sort of ribbon etc would look good to cover the stitches if you cannot live with it the way it is

  6. Beautiful and the stitching on the inside is barely noticeable, but if it bugs you then you will always notice it. Could you slip stitch a bit of ribbon or trim over it and still have it close? Or could you attach the outer fabric to the frame and then attach the lining seperatly to the inside covering the stitches where the outside fabric is attached...did that make any sense?? I love the frame and like Carol am interested in where you found it.

  7. I use to use gimp now lace will cover it up. some purse clasps when you use gimp make the purse not close and hubby has to sometimes bend the little "ears" just depend on the clasp. fun little things to make aren't they? I have one I have used going on 3 years now, I think that is how long I have been doing this wonderful art with tons of beads etc on it, you know me. And it has held up wonderfully nothing has jumped off of it yet. xoxooxxo

  8. I tacked a piece of silk ribbon trim that has tiny pre-made flower made into it. It's a delightful surprise when I open the purse.
