Open Registration: 15--17 April 2021 - Over-Stitching Ribbon Motifs

NOTICE: If you have completed the Basic Crazy Quilt Course (BCQC-101) in the past...then, you are eligible to register for this course. It would be helpful to you to also have finished the BCQC-102 and Beyond the Basics Courses...but they are not mandatory requirements.

Over-Stitching Ribbon Motifs  (Intermediate level)

Open for Registration 15-17 April 2021

Course Synopsis:

This is primarily a Silk Ribbon Embroidery course. The embroidery work includes some fibers, along with the silk ribbon, to create semi-realistic floral arrangements. These designs are beyond the traditional basic Silk Ribbon Embroidery Motifs of roses and leaves. Rather, clusters of daisies, berries, wild roses, pomegranate, and fantasy flowers will be printed (or traced) on to fabric and over-stitched to bring these to life in ribbon. A parasol lady will be embroidered to include a silk ribbon skirt for her outfit. Each motif design can be printed directly to fabric (or traced) and will use different widths of silk ribbon to complete. White ribbon can be used for all designs (and then ink to color these) if you do not have an extensive supply of colors/widths in the ribbon. Fantasy flowers can use any type of ribbon, saving on the use of the silks.  Designs will be printed directly to fabric (or traced) and then stitched over using primarily silk ribbon. The last task will allow use of other types of ribbons (satin, organza, velvet, craft, etc.).

(Note: This class is re-designed from portions of the prior ICQC-105 Course taught 2019/2020)

How to Register for the Course:

Send this information to me at shawklclasses@yahoo.com

1) Your First/Last Name

2) Location (State/Country) (I don't need your mail address...just state/country)

3) Your Email (This is where I'll be sending the course handouts/tasks to)

4) Please put the course name in the Email Subject (Dimensional Motifs). This will help me to ensure your email is seen amongst all of the daily crap that is received in my inbox. Thanks!

5) For those of you having taken courses in the past...please note that the above email address for courses/classes is NEW; so add it to your contact list. Thank You.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Registration is open only on 15, 16, and 17 April (Central Standard Time). No late registrations will be accepted.

Classes are free, no fees or special purchases are necessary. These classes do require a laptop & printer so you can get the patterns/instructions downloaded and printed easily. Therefore I do recommend you register if these are not readily available to you.

FYI: I do not own an "iphone" nor print using a tablet...so can provide zero "technical support" to you if you choose to register using these instruments.

All of my courses are taught via Blogspot (each is a unique private blog for posting photos of your finished homework). So, experience in "blogging" is helpful...but I can walk you though the minimal instructions needed for the course, even if you have never "blogged" before. Just be prepared to be patient...and have a few back/forth emails until we work things out.

Dimensional Motifs  (Intermediate level)

Open for Registration 15-17 April 2021

Course Synopsis:

This course continues the embroidery work of the prior Basic & Intermediate Courses and is technically more difficult. Fabric applique, printing on fabric, embellishing with fibers/ribbon/beads, and creating different dimensional embroiders are presented. These include the creation of slips in fabric, embroidery and beads that are then applied to another object. This is not a stumpwork course, rather the motifs are more elaborate and realistic in nature.

(Note: This class is re-designed from portions of the prior ICQC-104 Course taught 2019/2020)

Open Registration 5-7 April 2021: Basic Crazy Quilt Course (Part #1) (BCQC-101)

NOTICE: If you have never taken a course with me...this is the first you MUST take before you can be eligible to register for this next course. (Basic does not mean "beginner"...it just means the first course needed to be completed.)

Basic Crazy Quilt Course (Part #1) - (BCQC-101)

Open for Registration 5-7 April 2021

Course Synopsis:

This is the first course you need to take. It is a required course regardless of your skill level because it covers “how I teach” as well as getting everyone on the same level playing field for future courses. Handouts in this course will be used in the following courses as well. The course covers critical design principles; how to use templates to achieve uniformly aligned and spaced embroidery; creating some frequently used fiber embroidery stitches for crazy quilt projects; and common silk ribbon stitches and flowers. This is a “controlled” class with very specific guidelines for construction of a quilt block suitable for embellishing that allows identification of “problem areas” you will undoubtedly encounter when you are working on projects independently. There is a supply list for this course, but items should most likely be in your own stash already…possibly except for silk ribbon. This is a mandatory course.
